Eyedaptic to unveil new AI-powered EYE6 smart glasses
The new smart glasses utilize artificial intelligence to visually assist those with age-related macular degeneration and other retinal disorders causing vision loss.
Eyedaptic has announced the unveiling of its new smart glasses that harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to visually assist those with age-related macular degeneration and other retinal disorders that cause vision loss.1 EYE6, which is coupled with Eyedaptic’s interactive visual assistant named Ivy, will be introduced at the American Retina Forum National Meeting on August 7 in Carlsbad, California, according to a news release.
“Our commitment to innovation is evident in Ivy’s development, combining state-of-the-art machine learning with user-centric design that redefines how individuals with visual impairments interact with their surroundings,” said Jay Cormier, CEO and founder of Eyedaptic, in the release. “As we continue to push boundaries in visual assistive technology, The EYE6 with Ivy represents a culmination of our team’s dedication and expertise, and we are excited to introduce this advanced, wearable vision aid to eye care specialists and their patients.”
According to the company, EYE 6 is the only wearable vision aid that both enhances vision and provides an AI-powered visual assistant on the commercial market. The glasses use multimodal generative AI (GenAI) and large language models in order to visualize and interpret real-time information for its users, with Ivy able to read text, describe a room, locate objects, and assist its users in daily tasks. The virtual assistant is also fluent in 99 languages and has the ability to adapt to different environments.1
EYE6 is succeeded by EYE5, which is equipped with AutoZoom Mode for viewing text, facial detection, contrast enhancement controls, and a 2-in-1 wearable and handheld magnifier. The EYE5 glasses are also equipped with EyeSwitch, which optimizes the user’s functional peripheral vision.2 The EYE5 can be upgradeable to EYE6, which adds on the benefits of Ivy, with a monthly subscription. EYE6 also includes the same vision enhancing features of the EYE5, with full high definition 1080p resolution micro displays.1
“The implementation and integration of AI in visual assistive devices is truly groundbreaking,” said Mitul Mehta, MD, chief medical officer of Eyedaptic, in the release. “With the EYE6, individuals with vision impairments now have a visual assistant to help them do everyday tasks and activities that weren’t possible before. They can ask Ivy to read a page to them or describe a room. With Ivy, the possibilities are endless allowing individuals to remain independent and have a better quality of life.”
Hemang Pandya, MD, founder of the American Retina Forum, stated in the release that new technology like the EYE6 is welcomed. “We are pleased to host the unveiling of this newest GenAI technology for the visually impaired,” he said.
The EYE6 is currently available for eye care practices and Eyedaptic users. Those currently using EYE5 can contact [email protected] for an upgrade. Eye care practices not yet utilizing Eyedaptic’s technology can contact [email protected] for more information.1
